Often referred to as an Intercom system, the most common type of door entry system comprises of an entrance panel at the front door, handset (or handsets) in the home and a simple power supply unit.
It provides a very simple and cost effective barrier to allow the householder to screen who they greet at the front door.
Visitors would simply press the button, as with any door bell, alerting the householder via the handset. When the handset is picked up, conversation can then be made with the visitor.
Although not always used, an automatic lock release can be fitted, allowing the householder to unlock the front door from the handset allowing guests to come in. This feature is ideal for large properties or for elderly and infirm householders who cannot get to the door easily.
There are many different versions available, to meet with the requirements of single homes or multiple apartments. Video versions are also available to add that additional layer of security. |
